Do Dham Yatra Overview (Kedarnath and Badrinath)
You should have complete information about the Do Dham, Kedarnath and Badrinath so that whenever you go on a pilgrimage, you are already familiar with these holy places and can plan your journey smoothly. Therefore, we have provided detailed information about both shrines below.
Kedarnath Dham is one of the most sacred shrines among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, situated in the Rudraprayag district. Located on the banks of the Mandakini River, this temple stands at an altitude of approximately 3,583 meters.
According to legend, the Pandavas constructed this temple after the Mahabharata war to seek atonement for their sins.
Due to heavy snowfall, the temple remains closed for six months during the winter season; during this period, the deity is worshipped at the Omkareshwar Temple located in Ukhimath.
A pilgrimage to Kedarnath is as adventurous as it is spiritual, as devotees typically undertake a trek of 16–18 kilometers, commencing from Gaurikund.
Badrinath Dham is situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River in the Chamoli district. It is one of the four sacred Char Dham of Hinduism and is located at an altitude of approximately 3,133 meters.
Adjacent to the temple lies ‘Tapt Kund’ a natural hot water spring where devotees take a holy dip before offering their prayers. A short distance from here is ‘Mana Village’ which is considered to be India’s last village.
The temple opens annually around the time of Akshaya Tritiya (April–May) and closes after Diwali for the winter season. The best time to visit is between May and June, and September and October.
